PURPOSE: A device and method for inputting data of a mobile information terminal is provided to enable a user to input an address book by a simple key input by supplying a soft keyboard including a corresponding input available character set adapted to a selected item when the user selects a corresponding item for inputting an address book. CONSTITUTION: If a user requests an input of an address book through a touch screen(S10), a control unit outputs and displays an address book input screen having a plurality of input items on a touch screen(S11). A cursor is positioned at the first item on the address book input screen(S20). A control unit supplies a soft keyboard on the address book input screen(S21). In the case that the user wishes to input an English name, the user selects and inputs a specific function key, that is, a keyboard conversion key(S30). If the user selects other item(S40), the current stage is returned to above stage(S21). If the user does not select other item(S40), only corresponding storing area is searched out of a storing area of a character DB and a character corresponded to the inputted data is checked(S41). The checked character is stored in an address book DB. Thus, data are inputted on all items of the address book.
