PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sufficiently purify exhaust gas by a catalyst even immediately after starting an internal combustion engine and to prolong a service life of the catalyst when the catalyst is provided inside an exhaust pipe in the internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: This internal combustion engine 4 is provided with an internal combustion engine main body 12, the exhaust pipe 33 extending from the internal combustion engine main body 12 and leading exhaust gas 15 from the internal combustion engine main body 12 outside the internal combustion engine main body 12, a water jacket 43 formed on a pipe wall of the exhaust pipe 33 to pass cooling water 44, and the catalyst 51 provided inside a part in the longitudinal direction of the exhaust pipe 33 to purify the exhaust gas 15 by passing the exhaust gas 15. The water jacket 43 is provided with a first jacket 45 formed in the part of the exhaust pipe 33 and a second jacket 46 formed in the other part of the exhaust pipe 33. The first and second jackets 45, 46 are arranged in such a way that the cooling water 44 passes in parallel.
