PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head capable of improving reading resolution, without deteriorating the withstand voltage of a gap film and maintaining sensitivity, without developing novel magnetoresistance effect films, and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: An area, in which a shield gap is narrowed, is set to be only an area in the vicinity of an air bearing surface, so that a withstand voltage between a shield and a magnetoresistance effect film is secured even when the shield gap is reduced. Additionally, a part of the upper shield is operated as a flux guide, to increase the amount of magnetic fluxes passed through the magnetoresistance effect film, so that the sensitivity is improved.
