PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image enlarging method capable of performing the enlarged display of the television images of an NTSC system onto the screen of an XGA standard easily, quickly and clearly without color blotting. SOLUTION: In an image constituted by shortening the interval for one scanning line between the scanning lines displaying the image for one field of the television image, the image part of a vertical direction prescribed area is defined as a source image 11. The image area for one scanning line of the source image 11 is enlarged to be triple respectively in the vertical direction. In the enlarged area 13 for three lines, the pixel value arrays of the respective lines 21 and 22 for adjacent two lines are respectively made the same as the pixel value array corresponding to a luminance value at respective positions on the corresponding scanning line of the source image 11. On remaining line 23 adjacent to the enlarged image area 13 for the different scanning lines of the source image 11 is set to a pixel value to be black display.
