Air is cooled using a device comprising a first cooler (4) which is cooled by a second flow of liquid coolant, the first flow of liquid coolant being used to cool the engine (9), and a second cooler (5) which is cooled by the surrounding air. The air from the compressor is passed through the first cooler and then through the second cooler before being introduced into the engine. The second flow of liquid coolant is at least 50 % greater than the flow at which the coolant would be made to boil in the first cooler, but comprises no more than 35 % of the first flow. An Independent claim is also included for a method for cooling air from a compressor in an engine, using this system. |
