<p>An ultrasonic distance measuring system (10) for monitoring railroad car loads. The system includes an ultra sonic transducer (20), a pulse generation and detection circuit (22) and a measurement circuit (24). The transducer (20) produces a transmitted ultrasonic pulse beam (14, PT) to be directed at a load (12) in a railroad car (8) and receives a return pulse beam (PR) from the load (12). The pulse generation and detection circuit (22) is coupled to the transducer (20) and causes the transducer (20) to produce the transmitted pulse beam (14, PT). A return pulse beam (PR) is detected by the pulse generation and detection circuit (22). The measurement circuit (24) is coupled to the pulse generation and detection circuit (22) and generates a measurement signal representative of the load (12) as a function of the time delay between the transmitted and return pulse beams (PT, PR).</p> |
