Cutting insert (1) used for milling has a flat upper surface partly serving as a face and a parallel lower bearing surface (3) connected to each other via a peripheral edge surface (4, 4'). The upper surface has a hexagonal shape and defines cutting edges (5) where it intersects with the edge surface. The edge surfaces define at least six partial surfaces lying at about 60 degrees to each other at least in the region adjacent to the cutting edges. The intersection of the upper surface and the edge surface next to a main cutting edge assigned to a hexagonal side defines at least partly also the bezel (7) assigned to the hexagonal sides. The cutting insert has a pair of active surfaces defined on two free surfaces between which at least one further free surface lies and enclosing an angle of about 60 degrees . An Independent claim is also included for a milling cutter having a cutting insert support having one or more holders for the cutting inserts. |
