Heterocyclic-substituted arachidonic acid derivatives (I) are new. Arachidonic acid derivatives of formula (I) and their stereoisomers (or mixtures), salts and solvates are new. X = CO, CS or CH2; Y = CH2, O, S, NH or NR; R = alkyl, alkaryl or aryl; Z' = H, alkyl, alkaryl or aryl; and Het = (i) monocyclic heteroaryl substituent having 1 or 2 heteroatoms (other than pyridine), specifically thiophene, pyrrole, isoxazole or optionally substituted furan, (ii) monocyclic heteroaliphatic substituent (other than 1,3-dioxolan) comprising 1 or 2 heteroatoms and optionally substituted (but not hydroxy-substituted) methylene units or (iii) a benzo-fused derivative of (i) or (ii). An Independent claim is included for the preparation of (I).
