PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately measure the shape of a roller inclusive of a recessed part. SOLUTION: A reflection type optical sensor is used as a displacement sensor 10 to scan the surface 102 of the roller 100. As scanning, a combination of circumferential scanning and long axis direction scanning is used. Calibration based on the inclination of the long axis direction scanning is applied to the obtained measuring result. The measuring result after correction is displayed on a display in various modes and can be judged multilaterally. Scanning due to radiation thermometer is also performed and the temperature distribution on the surface of the roller can be also measured to be displayed. This shape measuring instrument can measure the surface shape of the roller, the eccentric state of each cross section, the diameter of each cross section, a cylindrical degree or the like.
