PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heating apparatus with no variation in heat treatment time which applies a predetermined heat treatment to a work piece by passing it through a heating furnace by making the time for the work piece to pass through the heating furnace nearly constant. SOLUTION: The heating apparatus 2 comprises a heating means 4 for heat-treating a work piece 30 by passing it through a furnace, a transportation means 6 which transports the work piece 30 by moving it intermittently from an entrance 4a of the heating means 4 to an exit 4b, and an entrance sensor 8 which is provided on the entrance 4a side of the heating means 4 and detects whether there is a work piece 30 transported from a former process. The heating apparatus also comprises a timer which is set to go off at regular time intervals and a transportation controlling means. Each time the timer goes off, the transportation means 6 is caused to conduct a transportation operation. When the timer goes off between the time when the work piece 30 transported from the former process is detected by the entrance sensor 8 and the time it becomes available for transfer onto the transportation means 6, the transportation operation of the transportation means 6 is delayed and the transportation means 6 is allowed to conduct a transportation operation after the work piece 30 is transferred onto the transportation means 6.
