PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device that has many pixels and can easily suppress color resolution from being deteriorated, false color from being produced and the color S/N from being degraded even when the sensitivity is increased by summation of pixels. SOLUTION: Summing electric charges stored in four pixels in the same color closely distributed to each other over a plurality of rows and columns as to pixels in first, second and third colors produces a summed electric charge and individually detecting the summed electric charge produces a unit signal used to generate an image signal.
