PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus that suppresses power consumption to the utmost. SOLUTION: When restoration is required from a power-saving mode to an ordinary mode such as an operation for copying from an operation section 16 or an NCU 21 for detecting the arrival of a FAX call, while a secondary battery 31 is charged, charging to the secondary battery 31 is stopped. Thus, the image processing apparatus can use a power supply circuit 35, which exhibits the highest efficiency only when copying is conducted. In the case of using the power supply circuit 35 to conduct only the copying or conducting only the charging, the image processing apparatus requires less commercial power than in the case of using a large capacity power supply circuit the efficiency of which is highest when copying and charging are conducted in parallel. Thus, the image processing apparatus can suppress the power consumption to the utmost.
