PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a waveform equalizing system in which a waveform can be exactly equalized without imposing a burden to processing in communication. SOLUTION: It is necessary for a cable network to equalize a waveform to satisfy the condition of the equal zero point interval of so-called Nyquist by controlling equalization characteristics for each terminal interval in order to minimize the error rate of transmitting data. Then, an opposite side terminal is identified by a terminal identifying means 1 from an input signal S1 transmitted from the opposite side terminal and the equalization characteristics suited to the identified opposite side terminal are read out of an equalization characteristic storage means 2 for storing the equalization characteristics for optimizing the previously found characteristics of a transmission line between the respective terminals and set to a waveform equalizer 4 by an equalization characteristic setting means 3.
