PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface mounting type oscillator required a severe frequency deviation wherein its height dimension is kept small and its frequency variation caused by its received impact is prevented. SOLUTION: The surface mounting type quartz oscillator has an IC chip fastened to the bottom surface of the recessed portion of its container main body, wherein there are integrated oscillation capacitors Ca, Cb connected respectively with both the end sides of a quartz vibrator for forming a resonance circuit and an oscillation-oriented amplifying element for feeding back and amplifying its oscillation frequency depending on the resonance circuit; a quartz piece to become the quartz oscillator whose one-end portion is held on the step portion provided on the inner wall of the recessed portion of its container main body; a metal cover wherewith the opening surface of the recessed portion of its container main body is sealed; a stray capacity C1 present between the quartz piece and the IC chip which is connected in parallel with the oscillation capacitor Ca; a stray capacity C2 present between the quartz piece and the metal cover which is connected in parallel with the oscillation capacitor Cb. Further, in the constitution of this surface mounting type quartz oscillator, there are so set a gap d1 present between the quartz piece and the IC chip and a gap d2 present between the quartz piece and the metal cover as to reduce the variation of the equivalent capacity observed from the quartz vibrator, correspondingly to the variation quantity of its oscillation frequency caused by the variations of the stray capacities C1, C2, while keeping constant a gap d present between the IC chip and the metal cover.
