SEMITRANSMISSIVE REFLECTION PLATE AND SEMITRANSMISSIVE LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE

PURPOSE: To provide a semitransmissive liquid crystal display device using a semitransmissive reflection plate with which both reflectance and transmittance are improved whereas, in the conventional semitransmissive liquid crystal display device, transmittance is decreased by thickly vapor depositing a metal film on the semitransmissive reflection plate for the purpose of increasing reflectance. CONSTITUTION: The semitransmissive liquid crystal display device having the semitransmissive reflection plate is provided with; a liquid crystal panel containing two sheets of polarizing plates with a liquid crystal layer interposed therebetween; the semitransmissive reflection plate which is disposed on a surface of one polarizing plate opposite to the liquid crystal layer side and which is a reflection plate transmitting light and having a light reflection angle different from that of a surface of the other polarizing plate and which improves the reflectance by having a plurality of reflection surfaces extending over the nearly full surface; and a backlight disposed on a side opposite to the liquid crystal panel side of the semitransmissive reflection plate. The transmittance of light from the backlight is improved because there is no need for the semitransmissive reflection plate to have a vapor deposited metal film for the purpose of improving the reflectance.
