PURPOSE: A unit dose package is provided to easily open while meeting and maintaining the desired child resistance criteria throughout its use life. CONSTITUTION: The unit dose package comprises a flexible paperboard or plastic portion formed as a series of contiguous panels; a rigid, molded plastic locking element; and a structure for containing unit doses within the package interior. The paperboard comprises: a top panel(3) having an extension foldable in relation to the top panel(3); the extension having included thereon blisters for holding unit dose materials; and the top panel(3) and extension panel each having slots(11) near one edge thereof; a bottom panel having a depression unit located therein; a side panel(23) foldably connected to the top panel(3) and the bottom panel; and a molded plastic locking element.
