PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a muffler of an internal combustion engine which can provide both effects of improved muffling through improvement of antiscattering effect of a muffler layer with an antiscattering cloth as well as muffling with the antiscattering cloth and prolonged duration of the antiscattering effect of the muffling layer with the muffling cloth through prevention of thermal deterioration of the antiscattering cloth in response to raised temperature of exhaust gas of the recent internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: A large number of ventilation holes 3 are provided at a part of an exhaust pipe 2 of the internal combustion engine, and a glass cloth as the antiscattering cloth 4 which is sewn with a glass fiber bulky textured yarn and acid-treated is wound once or twice around the outer circumference of the part and stuck with an adhesive. Around the outer circumference of the antiscattering cloth 4, a muffling body 5 made of glass wool suction-formed into the cylindrical shape with the glass fiber bulky textured yarn is inserted and arranged. The outer circumference of the muffling body 5 is covered by an outer pipe 6 made of a steel plate, and its both ends are welded to the exhaust pipe 2.
