PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deterioration of a light emitting element due to the water content or oxygen included in an interlayer insulating film. SOLUTION: In the light emitting device, an interlayer insulating film made of an organic resin material is formed on a TFT fabricated on an insulating surface, and a light emitting element having a light emitting layer made of an organic compound formed between a pair of electrodes is disposed on the interlayer insulating film. An inorganic insulating film essentially comprising silicon and nitrogen or a carbon film having the SP<3> coupling and containing hydrogen is formed between the interlayer insulating film and the light emitting element.
