PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a honeycomb structure hardly having shape distortions and defects such as nicks on the surface.SOLUTION: A manufacturing method of a honeycomb structure comprises a molding step for extrusion molding a raw material composition to obtain a columnar honeycomb compact that has many open holes partitioned by walls and arranged side by side in the longitudinal direction and has an outer peripheral wall formed, a drying step for drying the honeycomb compact to obtain a dry outer peripheral wall and a dry honeycomb compact, a burning step for burning the dry honeycomb compact to obtain a burned outer peripheral wall and a burned honeycomb compact, a cutting step for cutting and removing the whole burned outer peripheral wall, and an outer peripheral coating layer forming step for forming an outer peripheral coating layer on the outer peripheral of the honeycomb structure.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
