PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base isolation device capable of securing high base isolation performance with low friction and bearing large vertical loads. SOLUTION: The base isolation device 10 is installed between the foundation structure 2 of a base-isolated construction 1 and an upper structure 5, permits relative displacement between the foundation structure 2 and the upper structure 5 during an earthquake to prevent the displacement of the ground from being directly transmitted to the upper structure 5, and includes a bearing plate 11 fixed to the foundation structure 2 and having a smooth upper surface, and a skid member 15 serving as a bearing body opposed to the top of the bearing plate and including a synthetic resin for supporting the upper structure 5. The upper surface of the bearing plate 11 is formed as a smooth mortar-shaped surface 12 whose center portion is dented relative to its periphery. The lower surface 16 of the skid member 15 is formed as part of a spherical surface with a large radius of curvature.
