PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a root-cutting treatment device capable of improving working property and large scale productivity in the root-cutting treatment of green onions having roots, and also surely preventing the fall of the commercial value caused by the unevenness of the length of the root cut. SOLUTION: This root-cutting treatment device 1 for the green onion is characterized by being equipped with a cutting device 11 for cutting the green onion with root N, a light projector 18 for projecting light L in the root-cut green onion N1, a photo-receiver 19 for detecting the amount of light L outputted from the cut surface of the root-cut green onion, a cutting position- changing means for setting and changing the root-cutting length by moving the position of the green onion with the root, a root-cutting length-controlling means for controlling the movement of the green onion N1 in axis direction by the cutting position-changing means and the root cutting when the amount of the outputted light detected by transmitting the radiation from the light projector 18 is at a prescribed value or less, and a washing device 24 for washing the soil on the outer circumference of surroundings of the root side of the green onion N with the root in the vicinity of the cutting device 11.
