PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately obtain the total length of an object by more accurately calculating the anti-optic axis angle of a ship when calculating the total length of an object such as a ship regarding an object-calculating method and an object-calculating apparatus for calculating the length of an advancing object. SOLUTION: The object-calculating method comprises a step for calculating the first anti-optic axis angle of the advance direction on the horizontal plane of the object concerned when the object is photographed from a photographing point, a step for calculating the second anti-optic axis angle in the advance direction on the horizontal plane of the object based on the tracking data of the object by a radar from the photographing point, a step for calculating each of the angle error distributions of the calculated first anti-optic axis angle and the second anti-optic axis angle, a step for generating a distribution where each calculated angle error distribution has been integrated, a step for obtaining the maximum value from the integrated angle error distribution, and a step for calculating the length of the object based on the anti-optic axis angle of the obtained maximum value.
