PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To evade occurrence of failure in a magnetic head and/or an optical pickup by holding back a head unit within the readable range of a small size disk when a small cartridge is loaded, and releasing the hold back when a large cartridge is loaded. SOLUTION: In a disk recording/reproducing device furnished with an information recording disk 4a having a large or small diameter, the large or small size cartridge 4 for housing the disk in accordance with a disk size, and an optical pickup unit 1 movable to the radial direction of the disk while having the optical pickup for recording/reproducing the information with respect to the disk, when the small cartridge is loaded into the disk recording/reproducing device, a movement holding back part 7 is arranged so that the optical pickup unit does not move beyond the information reproducible range of the small diameter disk, and when the large cartridge 4 is loaded into the disk recording/ reproducing device, the hold back of the movement made by the movement holding back part 7 is released in relation to the insertion of the large cartridge.
