PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detector and a detection method that can enhance detection sensitivity by using effectively light from a very small flow passage. SOLUTION: This detector is provided with light emitting means 34 for emitting light toward the very small flow passage 24, and a detecting means 32 for detecting the lights 84, 86 from the flow passage 24. Width L of the flow passage is included, as the whole, within a detection area 38 where the detecting means 32 is able to detect the lights. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
