ANNULAR SEALING DEVICE HAVING POSITIVE STOP MEANS FOR USE IN VALVE MEMBER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an annular sealing device having a positive stop means for preventing excessive pressurization. SOLUTION: This annular sealing device is provided with a rigid support member having at least one almost flat outer surface portion, and an almost circular cavity is provided in the neighborhood of the at least one almost flat outer surface of the support member. This cavity has a first predetermined diameter and a predetermined depth. An almost circular elastomer sealing member having a predetermined thickness and a second predetermined diameter is arranged in the almost circular cavity. The elastomer sealing member has an almost flat surface which can be engaged with a predetermined surface to be sealed. The stop means is engaged with at least one portion of the almost flat outer surface portion of the support member, and excessive penetration of the surface to be sealed into the almost circular elastomer sealing member is prevented.
