PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper currency processing device which is adaptive to newly issued paper currency without altering the device constitution, and can lighten the operation burden on an operator and improve convenience to users. SOLUTION: A paper currency processing unit 1 has a throw-in slot 3 in which paper currency of a plurality of denominations is thrown, a conveyance path 5 which conveys the thrown-in paper currency, a decision part 11 which decides the denomination of the conveyed paper currency, 1st to 3rd safes 15, 16, and 17 which stores the denomination-decided paper currency by the denominations, and a discharge port 4 for discharging paper currency taken out of the respective safes. The 1st safe 15 stores 1,000-yen bills, the 2nd safe 16 stores 2,000-yen and 5,000-yen bills, and the 3rd safe 17 stores 10,000-yen bills; and the denominations of paper currency stored in the 2nd safe 16 is stored in a memory while related to the storage order. When money is withdrawn, the denominations of the paper currency taken out of the 2nd safe 16 are decided according to data stored in the memory. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
