PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an EL display device capable of obtaining a bright display by efficiently emitting the light emitted from a light emitting layer to outside. SOLUTION: For the organic EL display device composed of TFT and organic EL elements formed on an insulation substrate made of a glass substrate, the area, where the organic EL element is formed, has such a structure that the reflective index of laminated films excluding the substrate becomes smaller as it is headed in the direction that the light emitted from the EL element propagates. By the above, the light from the EL element is efficiently taken out toward outside without being reflected. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
