PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a primary ground fabric for formed tufted carpets, having good formability and producible in higher speed, therefore high in productivity. SOLUTION: This primary ground fabric is a filament nonwoven fabric obtained by accumulating filaments made from a thermoplastic resin. In this primary ground fabric, the constituent fibers are unified together through a hot-melt adhesive resin and/or binder resin. The longitudinal maximum mechanical strength of the filament nonwoven fabric is 49-250 N/5 cm width and the elongation at break thereof is each≥70% in the longitudinal direction and transverse direction.
