PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new transition metal compound, a catalyst for olefin polymerization, which catalyst has excellent activity or selectivity and contains the transition metal compound, and a method for producing an olefin polymer in the presence of the catalyst.SOLUTION: The transition metal compound is shown by formula (A). The catalyst for olefin polymerization contains the transition metal compound and at least one compound selected preferably from organic metal compounds, organic aluminumoxy compounds, and compounds each of which is reacted with the transition metal compound to form an ion pair. The catalyst for olefin polymerization can allow 1-hexene being a trimer of ethylene to be obtained with high selectivity.SELECTED DRAWING: None
