PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hardness diagnostic apparatus for a viable subject in an endoscope in which a hardness is diagnosed by concretely digitizing an elastic modulus or a viscosity coefficient of a viable subject such as the inner walls of the stomach or by relatively comparing portions to be examined, a pressure of an air jet stream is changed and the hardness is diagnosed by arbitrarily changing the pressure in accordance with a diseased part or portion on the inner walls of the internal organs. SOLUTION: The hardness diagnostic apparatus is provided with a forceps channel 12 for vibrating the portion to be examined by irradiating the portion to be examined with pulsed pressurized air, a nozzle 13 for changing a vibration frequency of the pulsed pressurized air and a vibration measuring sensor 14 for measuring the acceleration, speed, displacement or power of vibration from the portion to be examined in accordance with the acceleration, speed, displacement or power of the vibration applied to the portion to be examined and further, an arithmetic/display device 16 is provided for diagnosing the hardness of the viable subject by measuring at least one of a rate of change of an amplitude ratio or a rate of change of a phase difference with respect to the vibration applied to the portion to be examined.
