PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method for a refrigeration unit for highly precisely controlling the temperature of water, saving energy, and reducing the minimum retaining capacity of water to be thermally controlled. SOLUTION: An arithmetic processing unit 11 receives respective signals on water to be cooled by a water side heat exchanger 1 from an inlet temperature sensor 8 of an inlet pipe 6 and an outlet temperature sensor 9 of an outlet pipe 7 and calculates a temperature differenceΔT between the outlet and the inlet. When the temperature differenceΔT is within a prescribed value A or less, the refrigerating unit is determined to be operated at the minimum refrigerating capacity and the load of the compressor 2 in that time is stored as the minimum load. When the water outlet temperature C, a target temperature B of the outlet temperature, and the differential D show a relation of B-D>C, the compressor 2 does not reduce the load from the present load, so that it is stopped to turn off a thermostat.
