PURPOSE: A recording pulse generating circuit for an optical disc driver is provided to select a minimum absolute value among all possible combination DSV values as 16bit modulation data for improving the entire DSV(Digital Sum Value) characteristics, thereby reducing the high frequency components of recording pulse strings and restraining DC components for stabilizing the servo control and system performance. CONSTITUTION: A recording pulse generating circuit for an optical disc driver includes a conversion table storing memory(300) for storing a plurality of conversion tables and sequentially searching and outputting a plurality of 16 bit data corresponding to a plurality of 8 bit data sequentially input, and 11th and 12th selectors(310,350). The 11th selector selects the 16 bit data output from the conversion table storing memory according to values of the input 8 bit data and outputs the 16 bit data as data1-data3 in sequence. 11th-14th buffers(320,322,324,326) for respectively storing combinations of data1-data3 output from the 11th selector. 11th-14th DSV calculators(330,332,334,336) respectively calculate DSVs of combinations of 16 bit modulation data stored in the buffers. The 12th selector compares absolute values calculated by the DSV calculators to generate a selection signal(CS) for selecting a 16 bit modulation data having the minimum DSV absolute value. A modulation data memory(360) stores the selected 16 bit modulation data according to current 8 bit data stored in the buffers.
