PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a general purpose milling machine which has a simplified structure compared with known machines, and universally and entirely mills and turns a projected rod end part to produce each finished workpiece. SOLUTION: The milling and drilling machine mills and drills a rod-like material to produce each finished workpiece, and is provided with a motor-driven spindle head 10 including a working spindle 12 which moves on a column 2 along a first coordinate axis and selectively houses a milling tool and a turning tool. Further, the machine is provided with: a separating means for separating the rod-like material in a traverse direction; and a securing device 21 which is arranged adjacently to a side of a working space, and provided with a workpiece holder 22 having a securing shaft extending along a horizontal coordinate axis and a rotary drive unit for the workpiece holder.
