<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain image processing apparatus and an image processing method which enables a preliminary compression at least one time, and a reduction in time necessary for the whole compression. <P>SOLUTION: Correlation between scale factor and the amount of compression data is investigated previously by using a plurality of images. Relation between scale factor and the amount of data is made a formula. Coefficient in this formula is obtained as a function of the amount of data acquired by using a scale factor value which is previously fixed. In the case that photographing is performed with a camera, preliminary compression is performed by using the previously fixed scale factor value, and coefficient of a relation formula between scale factor and the amount of data is determined from result of the preliminary compression. Finally, a scale factor value to a desired amount of data is acquired from the determined relation formula, and actual compression is performed by using obtained scale factor. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
