PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display which is improved in the production yield and which gives favorable display qualities with a wide viewing angle and high luminance in a liquid crystal display to be used for the display part of an information appliance or the like, in particular, a liquid crystal display required for a wide viewing angle and high luminance. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display is equipped with: a TFT substrate 2 and a CF substrate 4 disposed opposing to each other through a prescribed cell gap; a liquid crystal sealed between the substrates 2, 4; a pixel electrode 16 formed on the TFT substrate 2 in the side facing the liquid crystal; a common electrode 24 formed on the CF substrate 4 in the side facing the liquid crystal; a first slit 22 formed in the pixel electrode 16; and a second slit 28 formed in the common electrode 24 and extended in the direction almost orthogonal to the extended direction of the first slit 22 in the view perpendicular to the substrate plane.
