PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To modulate intensity of light emitted from a xenon lamp. SOLUTION: A certain current is supplied from a power source 11 to the xenon lamp 13 through a first circuit by turning on a first switch SW1 and turning off a second switch SW2 when starting the lighting of the xenon lamp 13 or lighting with direct current. When modulating intensity of the light emitted from the xenon lamp 13y, a certain bias current modulated by a first MOSFET Q1 and a current modulated in amplitude are supplied from the power source to the xenon lamp 13 through a second circuit by turning off the first switch SW1 and turning on the second switch SW2.
