PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital camera capable of extending the lifetime of its battery. SOLUTION: A solenoid driver 42A drives a mechanical shutter 42 for switching an incident optical path of an object light leading to a CCD 44. A CPU 36 gives a drive pulse to the solenoid driver 42A via a TG 46 for applying a drive voltage set by an electronic volume 86 on the basis of the drive pulse to the mechanical shutter 42 to activate the mechanical shutter 42. In this case, the drive voltage applied to the mechanical shutter 42 is set in response to an exposure time of the CCD 44 and decreased as the exposure time gets longer.
