PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an external controller from suffering from an excessive processing load by determining whether data are normal or abnormal with respect to a received signal of a response wave received from a responder by an interrogator and eliminating frequent occurrences reception interruption caused by the abnormal data state in the controller or the like in a transponder. SOLUTION: This transponder is provided with the interrogator Q for transmitting a writing wave S<SB>1</SB>and an interrogation wave S<SB>2</SB>and receiving a returned response wave S<SB>3</SB>and with the responder R for receiving the writing wave S<SB>1</SB>transmitted from the interrogator Q to write data, receiving the interrogation wave S<SB>2</SB>to apply diffusion modulation with response data and returning the resultant response data as the response wave S<SB>3</SB>to the interrogator Q. The interrogator Q is provided with a demodulating part 6 for demodulating a received signal of the response wave S<SB>3</SB>returned from the responder R, a digital correlator 7 for taking a correlation as to whether to be response data received by the responder R about the demodulated demodulation signal, and a data processing part 1 for determining whether data has normal bits or abnormal bits on the basis of the correlated correlation value and changing a gain of a receiving side amplifier in accordance with a result of the determination.
