PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting plotter capable of detecting a reference mark 4 reliably while preventing enlargement of the apparatus.SOLUTION: A cutting plotter is provided with a cutting pen 15 which moves relatively in the two-dimensional directions with respect to a medium 2 to be cut (target medium 2) so as to cut the target medium 2 and a reading sensor 16 which moves relatively in the two-dimensional directions with respect to the target medium 2 from a reading initiation point on the target medium 2 and detects a reference mark 4 given on the target medium 2. In detecting the reference mark 4, the reading sensor 16 carries out a first detecting operation with one of the two-dimensional directions from the reading initiation point as the detection range and, when the reference mark 4 is not detected by the first detection operation, performs a second detection operation with the other of the two-dimensional directions from the reading initiation point as the detection range. |
