Method and apparatus for hardware implementation independent verification of network layers

The apparatus has a verification mechanism (300) that uses a hardware-independent interface to query channel adapter hardware for specific values and completion queues. A verification application programming interface (API) controls the mechanism to create a group of verification components that monitors incoming and outgoing traffic between the adapter and switch fabric in an InfiniBand system. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a method for configuration independent verification of transport and link layers of a channel adapter in an InfiniBand system (b) a computer program product having a program code operable to implement a method for configuration independent verification of transport and link layers of a channel adapter in an InfiniBand system (c) a computer data signal having a program code operable for a method for configuration independent verification of transport and link layers of a channel adapter in an InfiniBand system.
