APPARATUS FOR COMMUNICATING MOBILE VIDEO MAIL BY USING TRANSCODING, AND METHOD THEREFOR

PURPOSE: An apparatus for communicating a mobile video mail by using transcoding, and a method therefor are provided to transmit a video mail between mobile terminals supporting different codecs. CONSTITUTION: If receiving an arrival report message of a mobile video mail, a video mail server(180) senses the arrival report message and confirms a second mobile phone(120) which is a destination terminal. The mobile video mail server(180) inspects whether a database(213) has information related to a support codec of the second mobile phone(120). If not, the mobile video mail server(180) generates/transmits a mobile video mail arrival message including information inquiring support codec information of the second mobile phone(120). If so, the mobile video mail server(180) confirms the support codec information of the second mobile phone(120). The mobile video mail server(180) confirms support codec information of the second mobile phone(120) and a first mobile phone(110) to confirm whether transcoding is required. A transcoding server(190) transcodes the mobile video mail of the first mobile phone(110) corresponding to the support codec of the second mobile phone(120). The mobile video mail server(180) transmits the video mail at a data rate set up in the second mobile phone(120).
