PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processor which restricts the memory consumption and ensures a versatility. SOLUTION: When a desired portion area is designated on an image already recorded on a memory medium 34, the processor extracts a partial image belonging to the desired portion area. How to extract the partial image differs between systems 1, 2. When the system 1 is selected, the processor forms a new sub-image file for managing sub-images on the recording medium. When the system 2 is selected, it forms sub-image managing information as position information of the desired partial area and embeds the sub-image managing information in an image file at the extraction source side. Selecting either system 1 or system 2 is at option. If selecting the system 1, a versatility is ensured for handling the image. If selecting the system 2, the consumption of the recording medium is restricted.
