PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an unsaturated monocarboxylate of high purity in a high yield and to provide a polymerizable composition for an optical member having a small transmission loss. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the unsaturated monocarboxylate of general formula (1) comprises reacting an unsaturated monocarboxylic acid with a 4-20C (cyclo)olefin in the presence of an acid catalyst and washing the reaction solution with an alkali aqueous solution. In formula (1), X<SP>1</SP>is a hydrogen atom (H) or a deuterium atom (D); and Y<SP>1</SP>is H, D, CH<SB>3</SB>, CD<SB>3</SB>, a halogen atom or a CF<SB>3</SB>group. The polymerizable composition for the optical member comprises as an essential ingredient the unsaturated monocarboxylate obtained by the manufacturing method. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
