PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which executes and controls the image data transfer to lighten the burden on its hardware. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has a controller comprising a means for calculating the image bus occupation ratio, representing the proportion of the quantity of image data occupying an image per unit time for transferring the image data between devices to a maximum allowable quantity in view of its hardware. If the total image bus occupation ratio of the image bus occupation ratio of all data being now transferred plus that of data intended to be transferred is decided to be over the maximum allowable quantity, the controller controls so as to delay the start of the data transfer, thereby avoiding serious questions such as data damage, deterioration of transfer/communication speed, or communication disabled situations, etc., without burdening the hardware.
