The packets are made by cutting off blank sections from a continuous supply web (10) having folds. The unfolded or partially folded material web is deflected by the guide roller (24) and introduced into the conveyor/shaping stretch and the folded material web is then deflected by the guide roller (28) out from this conveyor stretch. The continuously supplied material web is deformed in a first section adjoining the guide roller (24) into an intermediate folded position with at least one side upright arm and is then provided with the further folds in a further section of the conveyor/ shaping stretch. Independent claim describes device with guide rollers and shaping device applying folds.
