PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extract an appropriate outline of an object from a medical ultrasonic tomographic image and X-ray image in a simple operation. SOLUTION: A dialogue box B is displayed on a display and an input operation is performed by GUI (Graphical User Interface). An original image is displayed on a window W1 and an image of the extracted outline is displayed on a window W2. Parametersσ1 andσ2 of a digital filter (DOG-difference of Gaussian) are adjusted by the operation of knobs 11a and 12a of sliders 11 and 12. The outline is extracted by the digital filter by the operation of the knobs 11a and 12a and the outline is immediately displayed on the window W2.
