PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively reduce noise of a video signal with simple hardware constitution. SOLUTION: A method is provided for reducing noise included in an image consisting of a plurality of pixels. In this method, horizontal filtering processing is carried out by using pixel values (a) and (c) of a plurality of pixels which are horizontally adjacent to a pixel (b) to be corrected in order to correct the pixel value (b) of the pixel (b) to be corrected. Filtering processing in a direction other than the horizontal direction is omitted. Prior to the filtering processing, among the pixel values used for the filtering processing, pixel values such that absolute values of difference between the relevant pixel value and the pixel to be corrected are larger than a specified threshold are replaced with the pixel value of the pixel to be corrected.
