PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of surely preventing a failure due to the backflow of toner sticking to a cleaning roller arising from the use of a polyaddition reaction toner. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with a fixing device having a fixing rotation body, a pressurization rotation body coming into pressurized contact with the fixing rotation body, and the cleaning roller coming into contact with at least one of the rotation body of the fixing rotation body and the pressurization rotation body and uses the toner obtained by dispersing a toner composition composed of at least a polyester resin, coloring agent and release agent in an aqueous medium in the presence of resin particulates and subjecting the toner composition to polyaddition reaction. The apparatus has a means for detecting the temperature of the fixing rotation body and a means for cooling the cleaning roller. The detection of a prescribed temperature or above by the means for detecting the temperature of the fixing rotation body triggers the actuation of the means for cooling the cleaning roller.
