PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toner which facilitates recovering of the residual toner of transfer remaining on an image carrier, has good tinting strength, light resistance and electrostatic charge characteristics, and further makes very clear colors obtainable and is excellent in OHP (over head projection) transparency, and an image forming method using the toner. SOLUTION: The dry type toner is composed of flocculated particles consisting of at least polymer particulates, coloring agent particulates and release agent particulates as a toner perticle. The toner contains at least a quinacridone-based coloring agent and a soluble azo-based coloring agent, in which the total content of the quinacridone-based coloring agent and the soluble azo-based coloring agent is 1 to 20mass% and the mass ratio of the contents is the quinacridone-based coloring agent : the soluble azo-based coloring agent=10:90 to 50:50. In addition, the number average circular equivalent grain size of the toner is 3-7μm in the grain size frequency distribution of the number base measured by a flow particle image analyzer.
