PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an apparatus from being larger in size when an HP sensor of a read sensor is installed.SOLUTION: An image reader 2A comprises: a still document read part such as a contact glass 6; a moving document read part such as a slit glass 7; a read unit such as a read unit 10C provided to move reciprocally between the still document read part and moving document read part; read means such as a read element part 12 arranged at the read unit to be displaced slantingly by contacting a read surface of the still document read part and an inclined read surface of the moving document read part, and reading an image of a document placed on the still document read part and an image of a document passing through the moving document read part selectively; and two position detecting means composed of a combination of a filler 21 detecting a position of the read unit including a home position of the read unit, a home position sensor 20 and a DF sensor 25.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 9
